Superintendent's Message

From the Desk of the Superintendent

Firebaugh-Las Deltas Unified School District (FLDUSD) enrolls approximately 2,400 students from Preschool through 12th Grade. All school sites of the district are located within the boundaries of Firebaugh, and the schools are as follows: Firebaugh - Las Deltas Unified School District Bailey Preschool, Hazel M. Bailey Primary (Transitional Kindergarten-2); Arthur E. Mills Intermediate (3-5); Firebaugh Middle School (6-8); Firebaugh High School (9-12); El Puente Continuation High School (9-12); Community Day School; Adult Education.

Our district has a tradition of focusing on academic excellence, along with a strong commitment to prepare all students to be career-prepared and college-ready for the 21st century. We are committed to preparing our students for their future by providing an integration of technology in our educational programs, meaningful experiences in visual and performing arts, agriculture education and ongoing opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities.  We are very proud of our partnerships with our local community college and our dual enrollment programs where students can earn their AA degree prior to graduating from high school.

Our district is committed to establishing high quality preschool opportunities for all 3 and 4 year olds in our community. We continue to enhance our Multi Tiered Systems of Support opportunities at all sites with a focus on Social Emotional Learning. We are proudly in our 9th year of reviving music in the district with the support of our school board and the help of three separate VH1 Save the Music grants.  Visual and performing arts are essential to student learning and the stimulation of creativity. We continue to enhance our Agriculture offerings and continue to bolster our award-winning Agriculture program, nearly 85% of our high school students are members of Future Farmer of America. Additionally, we have improved technology resources for staff and students. We want our students and our staff to engage in exciting, new ways of teaching and learning. We have a vibrant partnership with our community college which allows our students the opportunity to take dual enrollment college classes on our high school campus this has given our students the opportunity to earn their AA degree the week prior to high school graduation.

In November 2016 we passed a 15 million dollar local bond measure H for school repair, safety, and classroom technology. We repaired aging classrooms; removed asbestos/lead paint; upgraded school safety/security; improved agricultural education/vocational programs; improved technology, computer/science labs; repaired, constructed/retrofitted classrooms,sites/equipment; to maintain student health/safety and retain/attract quality teachers.  We also were successful in applying for and receiving four Career Technology Education grant bonds for our Ag Shop and Woodshop modernization as well as a new state of the art Performing Arts building and industry standard Culinary Classroom.

Finally, a top priority of our district is always safety. Our schools will continue to enhance efforts to ensure that campuses and classrooms are safe and clean for students. In collaboration with the Firebaugh Police Department, we have established safety walks at all of our school sites to continuously look at ways to make our campuses as safe as possible. One result of ongoing safety analyses on our campuses was the installation of cameras at all sites. We want to improve and build a school culture that is supportive, respectful, drug-free, and conducive to successful student learning.

FLDUSD will continue to reach for excellence in all academic and extracurricular areas. Parents, I encourage you to get involved and engaged in your child’s learning. Parent involvement includes, but is not limited to, any school sponsored workshops, events, and activities. Our purpose is to create a community for learning, where students, parents, and staff are joined in the pursuit of academic excellence and personal growth.
